GEOFF NEWTON

Coach Newton has been involved in basketball since the age of 10, and he has coached boys and girls teams in the Metro Basketball Association of Nova Scotia at several levels, including Division 1. In his career, he has been successful in leading his teams to both regional and provincial championships.

Geoff is a proponent of positive reinforcement as a means of promoting individual skills and developing players into well-rounded teammates. An integral member of our staff at Basketball IQ Canada, he feels it is important to keep young players involved in basketball as an extracurricular activity as the game enhances social skills, cooperation, and critical thinking.

Another asset Coach Newton brings to our organization is that he is a staff lawyer with Nova Scotia Legal Aid, which has reiterated how positive reinforcement and participation in the community improves all facets of life for young players. Basketball IQ Canada strives to develop our players into young adults who effectively integrate into society both individually and as members of the workforce, so we are proud to welcome Coach Newton to our organization.

LONNIE STATES

We are excited to welcome Lonnie States to our Basketball IQ Canada Elite camp as a guest coach. Lonnie has been involved in basketball at many levels as both a player and coach for over 40 years. Coach States has coached and operated his own club teams in Canada and the USA. He was the Head Coach for the Charlottetown Power of the men’s professional Eastern Canadian Basketball League, he presently coaches the Lake City 56ers of the MWBA, and he is an Assistant Coach for Holland College. He holds Train to Train certification from Basketball Canada and has Gold Level certification from USA Basketball. He brings unequalled experience to our camp and we can all learn from Coach States’ extensive background.
